Fire-retardant materials
Organizers set requirements for documentation regarding the fire properties of materials. At XL Print, we help companies, agencies, stand builders, and event organizers choose the right materials – and we provide advice on material selection, documentation, and production.

What does fire-rated material mean?
Fire-approved materials are materials that have been tested and classified according to current standards for fire behavior. At trade fairs, exhibitions, and in publicly accessible environments, documentation is required to prove that the materials used meet specific fire safety requirements.
This applies to, among other things, exhibition stands, exhibition walls, displays, signs, banners, scenography, shop fittings, display walls, event decorations, and museums.
In the worst-case scenario, a lack of documentation may result in the material having to be removed before the event can open.
Fire classes explained
The class is listed for each material below. The requirements for your stand are determined by the organizer and the local fire authorities.
An EU class has three parts, and each part has its own scale. On all three scales, the left side is the best.
Combustible, but with a very limited contribution to fire.
Very limited smoke production.
No flaming droplets or particles.
Dibond is C-s2,d0: one step lower in fire and smoke performance.
Tæpper og andre gulvbelægninger har deres egen skala med tilføjelsen fl, fra Afl til Ffl. Røgklassen er kun s1 eller s2, og der er ingen dråbeklasse. Et tæppe kan fx have Cfl-s1.
Other classes you may encounter
These are national standards and are tested in different ways, so they cannot be translated one-to-one into an EU class.
Flame-retardant according to the German standard. B1 is not an EU class and is tested differently.
French classification. M1 is the second-best class after M0.
American flame test for textiles and foils. The material either passes or fails – there are no classes.
This is determined by the organizer and the local fire authorities. Ask for the requirements in writing and send them to us, and we will find a material that fits.

Questions about fire requirements
Are all your materials fire-retardant?
No. Many of our banners, textiles, Drop paper, and boards have a fire rating – they are listed in our material list. Standard paper and cardboard are not fire-retardant. Some materials are only fire-retardant in specific versions. If you are in doubt, please ask us.
Is your documentation in order?
The certificate is available on the product page once we have it. If it is not there, please contact us before you order.
What fire rating does my trade fair require?
That is determined by the organizer and the local fire authorities. Ask for the requirement in writing and send it to us – we will then find a material that meets it.
Is B1 valid in Denmark?
Danish building regulations are based on the European standard EN 13501-1. B1 is a German rating (DIN 4102-1). Whether B1 is sufficient is decided by the organizer – ask them before you order.
Do you have the organizer's requirements? Send them to us.
We will find a material with the correct fire rating and help you with the documentation.
